Emile Cornelis’ hippo fits into any environment. An enrichment of, for example, your garden or hall. With its friendly appearance also a perfect playmate for your child. Because of his smooth skin and streamlined big mouth he really likes to be used as a slide. In this way, his bronze skin remains shiny, healthy and happy.

For inhabitants of the Nile River, hippos were a symbol of fertility and new life. It is therefore easy to explain that the goddess of pregnancy and birth, Taweret (literally: The Great) had the form of a hippopotamus.

After an Asian adventure of almost 20 years, Emile Cornelis has returned to the place where he was born and raised: beautiful Maastricht. Full of new inspiration, full of new energy.
Emile Cornelis is inspired by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Sculptures from that period have an almost magical aura to him. In combination with this influence he creates the most timeless fantastic sculptures
The final form of his work is not only technical work, but above all an emotional process. He believes that a sculpture should be formed by feeling and not by logic or reason. For this reason, he does not have a preconceived plan when he starts working on a new work.

From these ideas Emile Cornelis expresses his emotions in the most diverse, timeless, but above all beautiful sculptures.
